Euro cup 2012, also known as UEFA European Football Championship is being held at Poland and Ukraine starting from 8 June to 1 July 2012. This is the first time in history of Euro football that the tournament is hosted by either nations.
The euro football cup is considered as the main football tournament in Europe and is governed by UEFA(Union of European Football Associations). Euro cup is held every 4 years in the even numbered years between World cup. The first Euro Cup tournament was held in 1960 and it was called UEFA European Nations cup back then. And after eight years i.e 1968, it changed its name to Euro Cup. But now, this tournament is simple referred as Euro 2012 or the appropriate year.
Euro Cup title history
Since the foundation, total of 13 tournaments had been held and have been won by nine different nations. Germany topping the list with total of 3 wins with 6 appearances in finals followed by France and Spain with 2 wins each. The last championship, hosted by Austria and Switzerland in 2008, was won by Spain by beating Germany 1-0 in the finals.
Euro Cup 2012
This year, Euro football 2012 is co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine. Consisting of 16 teams, divided into four groups i.e 4 teams in each group.
A total of 31 matches will be played during euro 2012, in which Ukraine hosting 16 games and Poland 15 of them.
As of todays current data (17-6-2012)
From group A:
Russia is on the top collectting 4 points with 1 loss and 1 win with total of 2 match played. Followed by Czech Republic with 3 points from 1 loss and 1 win. Where as Poland and Greece are with 2 and 1 points respectively.
From group B:
3 time winner Germany is leading the group with 6 points from 2 wins. Followed by Portugal with 3 points from 1 win and 1 loss.
From group C:
Defending Champion Spain and Croatia are sharing the 4 point followed by Italy with 2 points from 2 games draw.
From Group D:
Same as of group C, two teams are sharing the same points. Here, France and England are with same points i.e 4 followed by co-host country Ukraine with 3 points.
